glaspaper - from the edge

www.glas-collective.com

In May 2004, ten new member states will join the European Union. Like Scotland they will exist on the geographic periphery of the EU.

The co-operative GLAS (Glasgow Letters on Architecture and Space) will explore these territories during this historic period in the history of the EU. Travelling by train from Estonia to Slovenia and on to Cyprus and Malta GLAS will investigate the cultural, social, and economic conditions shaping these countries. A special issue of the critical architecture journal, glaspaper will document this journey covering issues like remoteness, boundary, migration, and demographics.

Using interviews, graphics and critical texts glaspaper aims to communicate the complex political, cultural and historic mechanisms shaping our built environment and everyday lives to a wide and diverse audience both in Scotland and internationally.
